Meet Dr. Murdoch

Dr. Hugh J. Murdoch followed in his father's footsteps and pursued a dental career. His father, a well-known restorative dentist in the Milwaukee area, taught for over 50 years at Marquette University and was given the title Professor Emeritus when he retired from the School of Dentistry. After having orthodontic treatment as a teenager for a significant malocclusion, Dr. Murdoch was inspired to provide a similar experience for others and graduated first in his class from the Marquette University School of Dentistry. Dr. Murdoch received an Orthodontic Certificate of Specialization along with a Master of Science (M.S.) Degree from Marquette University.

During the years of his training, he was elected into Alpha Sigma Nu, a Jesuit honor society based on scholarship and service; Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest academic honor society; and Omicron Kappa Upsilon, a national dental honor society.

He practiced orthodontics in Madison, Wisconsin for six years before making Minnesota his home.

Dr. Murdoch takes pride in providing high quality orthodontic care and strives to offer the latest technological advancements by participating in regular continuing education.

Following the successful completion of a voluntary and very rigorous examination process, he became certified by the American Board of Orthodontics. After concluding his presentation, the examiners asked Dr. Murdoch if they could put two of his finished patient cases on exhibit.

He has routinely been named one of the top orthodontists by his peers in Minneapolis St. Paul Magazine and Minnesota Monthly.

His professional affiliations include the American Association of Orthodontists, College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontists, Midwest Society of Orthodontists, Minnesota Association of Orthodontists, and the Northside Dental Study Club, of which he is the past president.

Dr. Murdoch is a strong community advocate for those unable to afford dental care and has donated orthodontic services to Give Kids a Smile and Smiles Change Lives. He served on the Board of Directors at Harambee Clinic in Madison, a volunteer facility providing dental care to low-income people. He has also worked with Special Olympics.

In his personal time, Dr. Murdoch enjoys sporting events, live music, creative writing, and spending quality time with his wife, Elizabeth, and his son who bears the family name. He also has Gary, a cuddly Norwegian Forest step-cat. Dr. Murdoch plays basketball and participates in outdoor activities such as water skiing, biking, beach volleyball, and running. He has been told he still is very fast for his age!
